Biden and Von Hindenburg: For the Ages
I published this more than 4 years ago. With the fitness of Mr Biden, being all the rage and concern, I think this is even more spot on now.
I recently saw a picture of Joe Biden hunkered down in his basement or somewhere with a look that made me wonder if he knew what planet he was on. If elected he will be 78 years old when he assumes the Presidency of the United States.
Mr. Biden reminded me of Paul Von Hindenburg, the leader of the German Imperial Army during World War I and later at the second President of the Weimar Republic from 1925 until his death in 1934 at age 86
I was not thinking of the accomplishments and attributes of each man but of their age and place in history past and present
Von Hindenburg retired from the military in 1911 only to be recalled at age 66 following the outbreak of World War I in 1914. He became a national figure and hero as the victor against Russian forces of the Battle of Tannenberg in the same year.
Hindenburg retired again in 1919, but in 1925 was elected to be the second President of Germany at the age of 78. Hmmmm---78. Some historians have pointed out signs of early senile dementia in Von Hindenburg during his tenure, which included: restricted memory, apathy, and reduced problem solving ability. He appointed a new Chancellor of Germany in 1933 named Adolf Hitler.
I am not making any judgments on Mr. Biden about his age or current mental ability. I just found the situation of the two interesting.
