It is currently the vogue to bash Donald trump. He makes a tempting target. A man full of himself with little substance gives a big target for ridicule and bombastic attack. Most of my friends go out of their way to not pass up a chance to say something derogatory about Mr. Trump. Major newspapers seem to run the anti-Trump story de jure. The former talented "Cher" at a Clinton fundraiser the other day gave a lengthy vulgar tirade which the audience thought was funny about Mr. Trump. A diatribe by a conservative, of course, about Mrs. Clinton (and there are a few of those) would be deemed tasteless.
The polls are showing Mrs. Clinton well in the lead. It is two and one half months before the election.
The question becomes what can Mr. Trump do?
The answer is nothing. He is cooked. I say this because if reasonable people I know jeer and make fun of, roll their eyes, it is too late. Republicans will need every one of them to come out for Mr. Trump to win and a sizable portion of Independent votes also. I doubt it can happen. The damage has been done and I do not think it can be undone.
Mrs. Clinton is a flawed and scary candidate. Her actions of deceit, greed and arrogance would have eliminated her long ago. Most of this group of friends of mine hold their nose, trying to cushion their senses to the stench. However, her victory is assured.
I doubt it will be a popular vote landslide (except maybe by electoral college standards) because few really want Mrs. Clinton to be President except when Mr. Trump is the alternative.
Maybe the dynamics will change. Debate? We shall see.
