Congress has been in recess for more than a month now. It has been quiet and peaceful. Hotter than blazes most of the time but one can endure the weather for the most part.
It will soon end. The gang will be back right after Labor Day but not for long as the election looms. The politicians are running hard, raising money, making speeches and shaking hands on the rubber chicken trail. As they say in Washington, not much time to do anything. True, the legislative process takes some time. But in this case, there is no will or even an inclination to do anything. The government must be funded past September 30 but that is about it.
The only action is a result of the continued regulatory barrage from Mr. Obama to try to make sure his big government crusade advances. Mr. Obama will spent his last months campaigning and defending statements, deceptions that can not be defended. Do not look for any changes there.
The entertainment is all in the campaign. Stakes are high.
