Voters will have choices to make in November. However listening to the political chatter, it seems some have determined Republicans, particularly conservatives, have no choice. Seems like Donald Trump is not conservative enough. The New York Times and the Washington Post can not run enough stories about the bickering, split, disarray in the Republican party. It suits their purpose to spread this drivel, of course, to install Mrs. Clinton in the White House. Throw in this and that or that mucky-muck Republican made a disparaging remark about Mr. Trump or has failed to formally endorse him or kiss the ring. The sky has fallen and if to be believed, no reason to have an election, make it a coronation.
Mr. Trump continues to go his own way. He says he does not care or need the help of the party that is about to nominate him. This is, of course, a mistake of huge proportion. Party apparatus is important for fund raising, enthusiasm, and the much needed ground game on Election Day. I also not believe there are hordes of people who will magically vote for him or that Mr. Trump will attract many Democrat votes. Nope, Trump has to get an excited Republican base to support him and attract enough independent voters to get him over the top. This is the way it is done and that is the way the winner always does it.
No matter, a voter has to examine the choices. Either cast the ballot for the Republican, Democrat or sit it out. It this case, vote for a pompous blowhard with little substance and experience or a corrupt, untrustworthy phony who promises bigger government, more government and then again more government.
I find it interesting when I hear Republicans say they are not going to vote at all because Mr. Trump is not a conservative. I can understand not wanting to support someone because of a vast issue difference, because the person does not believe the candidate lacks the temperament or character to hold a particular office. But for Republicans to say they will not vote for Trump because he is not a conservative given the alternative is genocidal.
In this case, conservatives who sit it out make a de facto choice even though they may believe it is for a principled stance. It is mind numbing. I understand it but it makes no sense.
Actual voting and early voting is less than 6 months away. Lots can happen.
