The front page headline of the New York Times reads today that the President has formally put the stake in chest of the Keystone XL pipeline.
This is news? Approval by President Obama was never, ever going to happen. Not a snowballs chance, not in a million lightyears. Mr. Obama has done about everything possible to thwart the development and use of fossil fuels. If the country was down to its last drop of oil or piece of coal , he would do whatever it took, whatever he could to make sure it was not used. Cheap oil and gas has been boon to the country and to Mr. Obama. Interesting he was so opposed to it. Had nothing to do with the benefits.
The Keystone pipeline has been used as a political ruse to keep unions at bay in hopes of approval and to generate support from enviros. Nothing more than that.
The Canadian tar sands are not going away. Over they years, they will be developed with the oil probably going to Asia. Whether this is a good idea or not is another question.
But, there is nothing to see here. No news. no surprise. Just a continuation of the same.
