Computer Crashes loses Lois Lerner E-Mails: Come on, Rose Mary Woods is gone.

 

There is little doubt to me portions of the Internal Revenue Service targeted and harassed political groups opposed to the re-election of Mr. Obama. It was an orchestrated campaign, violating a number of laws. It was intentional, malicious and wrong. A toothless Congress- that is being thwarted and hindered at every level of the Executive branch- is investigating the conduct. In what would have been an independent investigation in past times, has become an insult to all of us.  

We deserve better than the tactics from these Nixon-like thugs.  But, wait, now the situation has become comical as well as insulting.  I always wonder how gullible and stupid the government thinks we all are?

After months of stonewalling, delays and unresponsiveness the IRS’s latest claim, for the period of January 2009 to April 2011, is that all e-mails between Lois Lerner — the IRS official at the center of the scandal — and anyone outside the IRS were wiped out by a “computer crash.” Ms. Learner has invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to provide any information and to testify before Congress.

It is laughable and sad. Even though the government has proved its incompetence in so many occasions, like the failed the health care exchanges, it is beyond credibility to say the emails were lost. I mean some picture put on the Internet can never be deleted. How can this be? I do not think they deleted or lost my tax return.  

This fabrication reminds me of the “18-and-a-half-minute gap” from a Watergate break-in conversation involving President Nixon. It was implausibly claimed Rose Mary Woods, Nixon’s longtime secretary, had accidentally erased  a portion of the tape. Her demonstration of contorting herself to show how it could have been done is still a classic. I am surprised she could walk after she was stretched out in a maneuver that not even Gumby could do.

In any event, it is clear that the Administration will do whatever it take to make sure the truth is never revealed. We shall never know if the political operation of the President was involved. With the past conduct in mind and now this, it is hard to believe anything said. Run out the clock, ignore it, and move on to the next scandal.

As I said, just who are these people who hide things and how stupid do they think we are?
