I went to the movies at the local cinema on Saturday. No matter what I saw, as it was interesting enough. The price for the "Bargain" matinee was 9 USD ($) per person. That is a discount from the regular 11.25 UDS ($) after 5 pm.
I love the movies. I used to go to them on Friday and Saturday and Sunday when I was growing up. I have great memories of going with my Father. I have continued going.
However, the price of movies has now gone beyond the pale. It is not worth it anymore. To drive the point home to me was my friends, who also went. were going to buy some tasty, unhealthy popcorn, soda and junior mints to munch on. However, the price of the smallest drink was 4.75 USD ($). The cup was about the size of a small coffee. I mean even at 7-11 you can get a 64 oz. drink for about a buck and a half. (true cost is in pennies, of course) The cost of the movie and the refreshments takes the life out of two twenty dollar bills. My goodness if a babysitter is involved.
It was too much for them and they decided to pass. Parched throat for the feature but no pound of flesh for the cineplex. I had to agree with them.
It is not the money involved. I can afford it and still have gas money but enough is enough. No more, not going to do it. It is sad I will deny myself this pleasure, perhaps I am myopic, a bullhead but really there has to be a limit and I reached it.
We all have to make decisions on how we spend our money (other than taxes, of course), who deserves to recieve it and how much benefit or pleasure we get from parting with it.
I will continue to spend money on things others would deem useless.Things that are worth it to me. But, I have made my choice on movies, sports is next.
