"Bite-Size Pieces" Can Still Cause Heartburn

You have to admire politicians for time to time, maybe even give them some respect from time to time. But then again,  listening to the same old tune can be a waste of time and quite annoying.

 The President  has stopped running around yelling  pass his jobs bill.  “right away”. Maybe it was the fact it was rejected by the Senate in a vote and  given a big NYET by the House Republicans. Now the President says it should be considered in parts, maybe like Chicken McNuggets. 

Mr Obama has suggested  Congress should take up a $35 billion spending measure to rescue  state and local governments. It would not be motivated by his strong, overwhelming government union support , would it?  

“We’re going to give members of Congress another chance to step up to the plate and do the right thing,” “Maybe they just couldn’t understand the whole thing all at once, so we’re going to break it up into bite-sized pieces so they can take a thoughtful approach to this legislation,” Reminds me of some scolding , smart alec teacher everyone dislikes. How condescending. What an insulting tone. Not funny, not clever and not productive. 

The Federal Government is in a huge financial hole. It is so big and deep, it is difficult to imagine, much less describe. Making mini-bailouts to State and local governments was a big part of the Stimulus bill. It may have delayed some cutbacks but it also delayed the inevitable of having these local entities making the right and hard decisions. It is not the Federal government's job to ensure local services are adequate. If the State and locals want to provide some service, they should pay for it. Make them either get their affairs in order or pay for the services by raising their own taxes, a favorite pastime of liberals.

State and local governments are notorious for the most part for making bad decisions and to promise more than they can or should pay for. They need to be accountable for their actions, not bailed out by the Federal governemt borrowing another $35 billion.

So, "bite-size" or not, this suggestion gives me heartburn. I am not biting.
